How do points work in F1?

The top ten score: 25 for the win, then 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1. Sprints pay the top eight.

Race points

Only the first ten finishers score. A win is worth 25, second 18, third 15, down to 1 point for tenth. There is no point for the Fastest lap any more: it was dropped after 2024.

Sprint points

The Sprint pays 8 points for the win down to 1 for eighth.

Drivers and teams

Every point counts twice: for the driver’s championship and for the team’s (constructors’) championship, which adds up both cars.

Shortened races

If a race is stopped early and cannot restart, reduced points are given depending on how far it ran. Under two laps, nobody scores.

Do you need to finish to score?

You need to be Classified: having covered at least 90% of the winner’s distance. A car that stops on the last lap can still score.
